In this photo Chief Johnstar and his wife Susan are cracking and grinding Nangai Nuts (called "Nali Nuts" at another village we visited on Gaua Island). They grind them in hollow bamboo tubes. They got these nuts from a tree on our walk up into the hills. They told us no other "Europeans" had been up there.
