Chief Nelson gave us a warm welcome to Asanvari Village on Maewo Island. For a nominal fee we joined his "Asanvari Yacht Club" and were given a membership card. Construction of a new Yacht Club building was planned and cruisers were providing considerable help. Supply ships don't get to his village often so he depends on cruisers to help him get rice and other supplies. The locals often put on feasts and dances for visitors.
