Also known as "Pitirre," this tyrant flycatcher is found from the southern United States to northern South America with northern birds migrating south in winter. Kingbirds aggressively defend their territories against intruders, even large ones such as Red-tailed Hawks. This "David vs Goliath" behavior has made them symbols of Puerto Rican nationalism and that territory's independence movement. (Tobago)
