We visited this World War II cemetery in Bourail. The graves are of 7 sailors, 161 soldiers and 787 airmen who fell in the operation in the Southwest Pacific between 1941 and 1945. All except 5 British and 2 Fijians were from New Zealand. The large memorial has the names of 25 soldiers, 3 merchant seaman and 252 airmen from New Zealand as well as 24 soldiers from the Gilbert and Ellis Islands and 145 from the Solomon Islands who died in the same operation, and whose graves are unknown.
