"Ivory Nuts" are carved and offered for sale all over Namibia and in other countries. Several of these were purchased in Outjo as key-chains and gifts for friends back home. They are seeds of a particular type of palm tree which grows in the northern part of the country. This vendor showed us how the outer shell (which is edible) is removed so the inner part can be carved,
