These are the five special Buddha images in the Phaung Daw Oo Paya. They are so encrusted with gold leaf that they appear to be just blobs. Men are adding more gold leaf while this photo is taken. We heard that women are not allowed to do this in many of the temples. This Buddhist practice is intended to gain merit for the donor, making it more likely that the donor's next life will be on a higher level.
