A sailboat proceeded south past the island as we approached. On VHF radio we heard people aboard a boat on a mooring saying they had been unable to go ashore for several days. This is not unusual because the port is not well-protected from waves and landing a dinghy is often hazardous. Christopher Columbus passed by on 13 November 1493 but did not land because of the dangerous rocky shore. The established port makes the situation somewhat better today but we sailed past without stopping because the seas were rough.
