This sculpture symbolizes the town of St. Pierre rising from the ashes of its 1902 catastrophe. It was created by Madeleine Jouvray, an assistant in Auguste Rodin's studio. It was placed near the pier in 1917, then moved near the covered market and finally to the ruined theatre.
