Victor Depaz was not in St Pierre when the rest of his family died here at the foot of Mt. Pelee in 1902. In 1922 he built this house and planted the rubber tree out front. He recultivated the sugar cane plantation and put the family distillery back into operation. Mt Pelee was hidden by clouds the entire time we were in the area.
