This pavillion was named after Emile Bougenot, a French engineer who married the daughter of a sugar cane factory owner. He became the most influential industrialist of late 19th century Martinique by converting sugar mills to steam powered machines. For a long time this was his residence and main office. During the second world war the Vichy government used it for an Information Service. At the time of our visit it was an annex of the Schoelcher Library.
