On the race course at Long Island there were plenty of powerboats available to rescue a swamped sailboat. This incident reminded us of the real dangers of sailing these sloops from island-to-island, which has been done for hundreds of years. Racing boats were often towed by large powerboats from their home island to race sites. A new Class A sloop was swamped and lost when its tow boat went too fast - a real tragedy in this small community of racers. |
