Storm Petrels are the smallest of seabirds and have a rapid fluttering flight, sometimes pattering their feet on the water. Sometimes they are called "Mother Carey's Chickens." Most of the numerous and widespread sub-species look very much alike. We believe this is a European Storm Petrel (Hydrobates pelagicus) in its normal area near the South African coast in December. |
