In Banda, Indonesia, we were tied to a dock which was an afterschool playground for local kids. Our dinghy was often left at their dock, but the kids never harmed it. We have had the same experience almost everywhere, but usually connect the oars to the dinghy with a small steel cable so they don't get lost.
